Hybrid Powder Coatings

Epoxy-polyester (Hybrid) coatings are renowned for their versatility in the realm of general-purpose coatings. With a commendable blend of durability and resilience, they exhibit superior hardness and offer unparalleled chemical and corrosion resistance compared to other available powders. One of the standout advantages of these coatings is their user-friendliness, complemented by a flexible range of curing schedules. Owing to their potent adhesive properties, epoxies bond exceptionally well with metals, especially when the metal surfaces undergo treatments like phosphating or sandblasting.

However, every coin has two sides. Epoxy-polyester powders, while exceptional in many respects, are not champions when it comes to UV resistance. When exposed to direct sunlight, they tend to fade and exhibit signs of chalking. Such deterioration can be evident in just a few months of exterior exposure. Hence, their true prowess is best showcased in indoor applications.

Interestingly, many primers are formulated from epoxies, primarily because of their strong adhesion capabilities and inherent rust resistance. Yet, given their susceptibility to weather conditions, they are often employed as an undercoat beneath another type of powder coating. This strategy effectively leverages the strengths of epoxies while circumventing their limitations.
